He can clear an entire screen and rest on the sakura at jump level one. I want action, not a novel.įinally into the actual game, I noticed Kage jumps unusually high. All I needed to know was Yoshiro is the evil target in question and I’m a ninja to play the game. The Legend of Kage 2 has many cutscenes with pages of text. Kage can’t die at this point though! A magical orange glow surrounds him and we’re finally into the game. Well, he stabs Kage in the chest, so they’re definitely not friends. While dashing with the princess (who apparently can run as fast as Kage) he meets another shirtless ninja with two blue swords and a blue scarf. Kage is on the scene and slices through the lone blue ninja to rescues her. His story begins with an elderly man summoning him and after pages of text we see ninja attempt to capture Princess Kirihime. I’ll be talking more about her later, but since I chose Kage first we’ll focus on him. Actually, it starts with a character selection where you can pick Kage or a new female character named Chihiro. But I’m getting ahead of myself talking about the actual game because the Legend of Kage 2 starts with a cutscene. They perish in a puff of gray smoke after a single sword slice or shuriken. Your everyday shinobi is no match for Kage. There are other enemies like floating suits of samurai armor and kunoichi, female ninja with two swords, just for the sake of variety. ![]() But the DS has way more colors than the NES so you encounter other ninja, gray and green ninja. (Sigh of relief.) While Kage looks different, the run-of-the-mill shinobi populating levels retain the basic red and blue look. ![]() For no apparent reason he is shirtless with only a red scarf as homage to his original look. The sequel has been over twenty years in the making and Kage has changed a lot. As the “2” in the title suggests the Legend of Kage 2 is a sequel to a 1980s arcade game developed by Taito. You run, slash and throw shuriken with good old buttons for a good old time. Instead of attempting technical innovation with touch screen controls like some other ninja action game on the DS the Legend of Kage 2 sticks to the old school. ![]() ![]() The word “marbles," though, was also used to refer to one's personal belongings or “ stuff." Marbles - those little glass or metal balls children use to play a variety of games - were popular toys long ago. What we do know, though, is that it's been around a long time.Įxperts believe losing one's marbles originated in the United States in the late 1800s. The exact origin of this phrase is unclear. If you say you're losing your marbles, you're claiming that you're feeling confused or losing your mind. That's a phrase whose meaning doesn't match up with the meaning of the actual words used in the phrase. Losing your marbles doesn't mean you actually had marbles that you can now no longer find. What does it mean? Did you even realize your parents had marbles? Of course, this phrase is just as puzzling as searching for something that was sitting in plain sight. Why? Because it's been sitting on the counter the whole time in plain sight! When you point this out, your mom or dad exclaims, “I must be losing my marbles!" You finally ask what he or she is looking for, and you're amazed when they say what it is. So, some things haven’t changed.ĭid you play marbles as a child? What are your memories of the rules of the game? What were the marbles like you played with? Take a trip down memory lane and tell us about your own marble playing experiences.Have you ever been sitting at the kitchen table doing your homework while your mom or dad frantically searches through the cabinets for something? At first, it may be amusing, but soon the clanging of the pots and pans distracts you from your homework. One boy complained that no one wanted to play marbles with him, as he is considered one of the best players and the others didn’t want to lose their marbles to him. These children lined up in rows, facing their opponent, but still taking turns. We discussed the differences in their game and mine, the major being I played on grass while they played on the asphalt courtyard. The largest, called Titanics, were so big I couldn’t imagine their small hands manipulating them with ease. The children fascinated me by showing me the range of marbles now available to them. Player concentration demanded silence and the click of glass marbles hitting each other preceded a triumphant cry from the winner.” Those unlucky enough to have empty marble bags watched on. Or, when a player was down on their luck they’d offer to swap a biggie for two cats eyes, keeping them in play. Sometimes my luck was in and I’d win a biggie off another player. The aim was to hit another marble, thus winning it from it’s owner, I didn’t want to go home with an empty bag. My marble collection was precious and I hated losing even the most boring looking marble, so I chose my playing partners carefully. We played at the edge of the field, on dry mud surfaces or where the grass was short. It wasn’t often I managed to win a steely to add to my collection. I’d start the season with a selection of small cats eyes, clear glass marbles with a colourful piece of glass in the centre and larger more sought after marbles called biggies. Mum made a little cloth drawstring bag to keep them in. When marble season arrived I pleaded for pocket money and bought marbles from a toy shop in a corner of the Square. ![]() Marble season lasted a short time, the length possibly being dictated by teachers tolerance of arguments and upset players. “Winter saw the emergence of marbles and knucklebones as favoured playtime and lunchtime activities. ![]() In the classroom I talked to the students about my own marble playing days and read the following passage from my 1950s school memoir book. The scene differed a little from my own school days in the 1950s, but the games purpose remained the same – to compete against a partner, trying to win your opponent’s marble rather than lose your own. I arrived at a local school today and to my delight the kids in the playground were playing marbles before school. ![]() The game has been around for hundreds of years and continues in popularity today. Mention playing marbles and most people can recall stories of their childhood. ![]() ![]() ![]() "A lot of issues come up that don't normally come up. The studio and producers also turned down the offer of a Time magazine cover, which some might consider to be the Holy Grail of free publicity (perhaps a misnomer in this case, however), because the magazine editors needed to see the film to do so. In addition, Sony was worried about contributing to a religious controversy over the perceived anti-Catholic aspect of the film - which has elements in the Catholic Church conspiring to conceal the secret life of Christ - while Imagine wanted to use the controversy as a promotional tool, an executive said.Īt one point Sony favored taking out an ad during the Super Bowl, which Imagine opposed. The concerns, said executives involved with the picture, were that information about the film could start a nit-picking debate over the filmmaker's choices in adapting the book, rather than focus on the movie overall, or that it might fuel religious opposition to the film.Įarly in the marketing, tension arose between Sony and Imagine over the approach to take, with Sony more inclined to feed mass interest in the film, and Imagine focused on trying to maintain more of the film's mystery, said executives close to the project. ![]() Their comments were used in place of more scientific feedback, he said. Instead, the film was shown on the Sony lot, with strict security, to close friends and family of the filmmakers, said Michael Rosenberg, the president of Imagine. In a 1998 interview with CNN about test screenings, he said: "What I would hate to do is put the movie out there, find out that the audience is confused about something or upset about something that you could have fixed, and go, 'God, I had no idea they'd respond that way.' " Howard has said he would be loath to release a film without it. Critics and other journalists will first see the movie on Tuesday night, barely allowing them time to write their articles for the Wednesday premiere and Friday opening in theaters around the world. "The Da Vinci Code" will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night. In contemporary Hollywood, movies released without first undergoing test screenings, media screenings, "tastemaker" screenings and screenings for critics are fairly rare that course is usually reserved for duds that studios would rather nobody notice.įor a movie like Sony's "Da Vinci Code" - with huge anticipation, a blockbuster-size budget, a major movie star in Tom Hanks, an Oscar-winning director in Ron Howard and source material read by tens of millions of fans - it is something close to unprecedented. LOS ANGELES, May 15 - Question: How do you market a movie that has near 100 percent public awareness, yet has been seen by almost no one? Answer, as Sony Pictures sees it: Very, very carefully. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Of course it wouldn’t be Resident Evil if it didn’t have zombies and I’m not exaggerating when I say that the zombies actually frightened me, in fact each of the enemies frightened me. Everything about this reimagination then has been completed with a lot of love and effort and they’ve paid homage to the original extremely well whilst also making it fresh at the same time. The screenshots however didn’t do the game enough justice because in my opinion this game has some of the best visuals and sound design I’ve ever experienced and this is the process throughout. The reimagination of Resident Evil 2 is something I’ve been following really closely over the past couple of years and everything I saw during that time just made me more and more excited because it looked incredible.
